159.555 - 5 transmitters located throughout El Dorado County. Each transmitter site also has a receiver listening to the input frequency and the system utilizes a voter to distinguish the receiver with the best signal. A distinct PL tone is used to dictate which transmitter will be active. The transmitters are strategically located to be towards the middle of each of the five "zones". The map below shows the approximate location of each transmitter and its corresponding "zone" number.

159.690 - This is commonly used for Search and Rescue operations and for special events held throughout the county. When not being used for these activities, you will hear CAR TO CAR traffic.

Unit Designators

Example: 20 Charles

The first digit represents the "zone". The second number represents the beat. Typically, only zones 1 and 2 have multiple beats.
Beats are subdivisions of the zone starting from 0 (western most end) to 2 (eastern most end).

Units with a designation of 60, 61, etc. are watch commanders (supervisors).

The phoenetic letter following the numbers designate the shift.
  • "A" (Adam) - Morning Shift (circa 6-7 a.m.)
  • "C" (Charles) - Swing Shift (circa 3-4 p.m.)
  • "E" (Edward) - Night Shift (circa 9-10 p.m.)
Typically during the summer months, you will commonly hear a "B" Boy shift. This is in between the morning and swing shifts to provide extra day-time coverage. "D" David units are K-9s and typically there are only two on duty, one in zone 1 and one in zone 2. (Example, 20 David) "T" Tom units are Trainees. One "rookie in training" paired up with a veteran. (Example 22 Charles Tom) "2" Two units are two deputies paired up in a unit. (Example 12 Adam 2) Please take a moment to visit the El Dorado County Sheriff's Official Website here.
